IDF Eliminates Hamas Battalion Commander in Gaza Strike
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and the General Security Service (Shin Bet) conducted a joint operation in the northern Gaza Strip overnight between September 14 and 15, 2026. According to an IDF spokesperson, the operation resulted in the targeted elimination of Ahmad Batash, a Hamas battalion commander in Jabalia. The military stated that Batash played a significant role in Hamas's military wing, overseeing the northern brigade's arsenal and coordinating weapons and equipment supplies. He was also reportedly involved in planning attacks against Israeli soldiers and civilians and was working to restore the organization's operational capabilities.
The IDF emphasized that the strike was carried out to neutralize an immediate and imminent threat. Prior to the operation, measures were taken to minimize civilian risk, including the use of precision munitions and continuous aerial surveillance of the target area.
