Accessibility statement
We want everyone to be able to read baba News, including people who use a screen reader, a keyboard, magnification or other assistive technology. This statement says what we aim for, what we know does not yet work, and how to tell us about a problem.
The standard we aim for
We aim for the website news.itsbaba.com and its Hebrew edition to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at level AA, and Israeli Standard 5568, which is based on those guidelines. We have not yet had the site audited against either standard, so we do not claim that it meets them in full.
What is in place
- Each page declares its language. Hebrew pages are marked as Hebrew and laid out right to left.
- Pages can be zoomed. We do not block pinch zoom or text enlargement.
- Controls show a visible outline when reached with the keyboard.
- Several animated parts of the site stop or reduce their motion when your device asks for reduced motion.
- Content that updates on its own, such as live counters, is announced to screen readers in some places.
- Each podcast episode has a full written transcript.
- The site works in light and dark themes, and you can change the text size in the reader settings.
Known gaps
- There is no “skip to content” link, so keyboard users move through the masthead on every page.
- The pictures on stories are AI illustrations. Their text alternative is the story’s headline, not a description of the picture.
- The written script of The Desk, our spoken hourly bulletin, is shown only to News Plus subscribers. Other readers see the headline of each bulletin.
- Clips and posts from YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, X, Facebook and Telegram play in those companies’ own players. We cannot change how accessible those players are.
- Charts such as the coverage bars and the election figures use colour to tell groups apart. Not every chart has a full text alternative.
- The apps for iPhone, iPad and Android are covered by this statement only in part: we have not reviewed them against the standard.
