UAE President Warned Netanyahu of Hamas Plot Before Oct. 7

UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan warned Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu approximately ten days before the October 7th Hamas attacks that Yahya Sinwar was preparing a significant event, describing it as an "earthquake." This revelation comes from an investigation by Haaretz, published in a new book by Shlomi Eldar and Ruth Yuval. According to the report, Netanyahu reacted with indifference, believing the threat referred to escalation in the West Bank. He reportedly did not update the Defense Minister, Chief of Staff, head of Shin Bet, or head of Mossad about this warning.

Simultaneously, a similar message was conveyed by Egyptian Intelligence Minister Abbas Kamel, to which Israel responded that it was in control of the situation. The investigation further details that on the evening of October 7th, Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani approached Mossad chief David Barnea, offering the release of all hostages in exchange for Israel agreeing to mediation. Barnea reportedly rejected the offer, stating Israel refused to negotiate with Hamas. Netanyahu's diplomatic advisor, Ophir Falk, instructed professionals that Israel would not engage in negotiations.

The Prime Minister's Office has issued a statement calling the report a "complete lie," asserting that Netanyahu did not speak with the UAE president nor receive any warning. This claim has been corroborated by former IDF Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi and former Shin Bet chief Ronen Bar, who confirmed they were not briefed on any such alert.
