IDF Destroys Hezbollah Tunnels, Fortifications on Ali al-Taher Ridge

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has revealed new details about a complex, months-long operation to destroy two underground tunnels and extensive fortifications belonging to the Hezbollah terror organization on the Ali al-Taher ridge, near the Beaufort Castle in southern Lebanon. The operation, conducted under heavy secrecy to prevent retaliation from Hezbollah and Iran, began after IDF forces reached the Beaufort and crossed the Litani River.

Commando units gradually captured the ridge over three months, aiming for full control both above and below ground. During the operation, the IDF intercepted supply shipments, including communication equipment, food, water, chocolate, and cigarettes, that Hezbollah attempted to deliver to besieged militants via drones. Concurrently, a diplomatic channel conveyed an offer of surrender to approximately 50 militants trapped underground. The militants refused, leading to their elimination within the tunnels or during escape attempts, with only a few surviving under cover of heavy fog.

Following the clearing of the tunnels, the IDF proceeded to their destruction. In a highly complex engineering feat, soldiers from the elite Yahalom unit transported and detonated approximately 1,100 tons of explosives within the tunnels, enduring constant threats from explosive-laden drones launched by Hezbollah. The Chief of Staff held continuous nightly assessments to monitor the operation's progress and the absence of counterattacks.

An senior officer described the operation as one of the most complex in recent IDF history, noting Hezbollah's determination to fight to the death and the extensive defenses on the ridge, which he likened to a "giant military post." He added, "Tonight, this mountain turned into a sandbox. Over 20 years of work by Hezbollah and the Iranians crumbled before their eyes. Hezbollah failed, abandoned its men, and the IDF completed the mission."

With the destruction of the terror infrastructure complete, IDF forces have withdrawn to rear positions in the Beaufort sector. However, the IDF emphasized that their control over the ridge remains firm, with forces maintaining close surveillance and fire control from a distance.
