IDF Destroys Hezbollah's Major Underground Infrastructure in Southern Lebanon

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced the destruction of a significant Hezbollah underground infrastructure complex in southern Lebanon, located beneath the strategic Ali Taher ridge. The operation, which lasted several months, targeted a vast network built by Hezbollah over more than two decades. According to the IDF, the operation involved capturing 14 tunnel routes spanning approximately 5.4 kilometers and utilizing around 1,100 tons of explosives to demolish them.

Israeli military intelligence estimated that around 50 Hezbollah operatives were present in the complex at the start of the operation. Some were killed in combat, while others perished attempting to flee the area. The IDF stated that no Iranian military personnel were found at the site. A senior military source described the complex as a crucial "nerve center" for Hezbollah's "Badr" unit and a vital strategic asset for the organization.

The operation commenced with crossing the Litani River, employing deception tactics to mislead Hezbollah about the IDF's true objectives. Israeli forces utilized a covert route to infiltrate Hezbollah's rear positions, discovering abandoned weapons and equipment. Resistance intensified as they approached the main underground facilities. Hezbollah attempted to resupply its operatives with provisions and reinforcements, with at least ten individuals reportedly wounded while trying to reach the ridge.

Following control of the surface, the IDF focused on dismantling the tunnel system through an extensive engineering effort. "All the work that lasted more than 20 years, aimed at creating such significant infrastructure, has collapsed into nothing," a military source stated. The IDF believes the destruction has severely degraded Hezbollah's ability to control the region.

The IDF also reported that Hezbollah sought Iranian support but has not observed direct retaliatory actions from Tehran. However, the IDF remains on high alert for potential actions by Iran and Hezbollah. Israeli forces intend to maintain their presence in the "Yellow Line" area and further fortify positions to prevent Hezbollah's return, with a senior officer emphasizing, "We are not going to leave."
