IDF Destroys Extensive Hezbollah Tunnel Network in Lebanon

The Israeli military has successfully destroyed a significant portion of a Hezbollah tunnel network in the Al-Tahir mountain region of southern Lebanon, marking one of the largest operational demolitions undertaken by the IDF. The operation involved the detonation of approximately 1,100 tons of explosives, aimed at neutralizing the underground infrastructure used by Hezbollah for planning and executing attacks against Israel.

Commandos from the Commando Brigade initially secured control of the surface area of the Al-Tahir mountain range through offensive operations, including ambushes and direct assaults on tunnel entrances using various weapons and drones. Following this, forces gained control of the subterranean network, which spanned over 5,400 meters across eight distinct tunnels. This extensive underground system was designed to prevent Hezbollah from planning terrorist activities against Israeli civilians and soldiers.

During the operation, the IDF discovered and confiscated a substantial cache of weapons within the tunnels, including dozens of explosive-laden drones, unmanned aerial vehicles, machine guns, anti-tank missiles, hundreds of mines, RPGs, and other military equipment. The IDF stated that the destruction of these main tunnels, along with those in the Beaufort mountain and surrounding villages like Arnon, Yuhmor, and Tibnit, renders them unusable for terrorist entrenchment and planning.

The IDF emphasized its ongoing commitment to eliminating threats to northern Israeli communities and its forces. The military continues to operate in southern Lebanon to clear the area and prevent Hezbollah from launching attacks. Forces are maintaining a defensive posture to ensure the security of Israeli civilians and are prepared for various scenarios, including potential threats across multiple fronts.
