IDF Destroys Hezbollah's Strategic Command Center in Complex Lebanon Operation

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has concluded a complex operation to capture and destroy the Ali Taher ridge in southern Lebanon, described by the military as Hezbollah's strategic command center, effectively turning it into a "sandbox." The operation, which lasted approximately four months, involved sophisticated deception tactics and extensive intelligence gathering. The IDF successfully infiltrated Hezbollah's defenses by crossing the Litani River via a hidden route, while the organization believed the IDF intended to cross the Saluki River. Elite units, including the Golani Brigade's reconnaissance unit, attacked Hezbollah's "Chotzev La'havot" (Flame Cutter) infrastructure from the rear, catching the organization by surprise.

Following the initial assault, IDF forces focused on destroying the extensive underground tunnel network, which spanned 5,410 meters and required the use of 1,100 tons of explosives. Hezbollah fighters attempted to resist from underground positions but eventually succumbed to intense pressure. The IDF reported eliminating approximately 50 Hezbollah operatives in the area, with many killed during attempts to reinforce or resupply their comrades.

During the intense fighting, Hezbollah attempted to deliver supplies, including food and morale-boosting items like chocolate and cigarettes, to fighters trapped underground using drones. The IDF managed to intercept these deliveries by identifying drop points and neutralizing operatives as they emerged to collect the supplies. Despite offers to surrender, many trapped fighters refused and were subsequently eliminated.

The operation, spearheaded by Northern Command chief Maj. Gen. Rafi Milo and Division 36 commander Brig. Gen. Yiftah Nurkin, was executed without provoking a wider conflict with Iran or Lebanon. The destruction of the Ali Taher ridge signifies the loss of Hezbollah's last major strategic infrastructure in southern Lebanon. The IDF has since established new, more stable defensive lines in the area. Hezbollah and Iran have not publicly responded to the destruction of the command center.
