IDF Destroys Hezbollah's Strategic Tunnel Network in Southern Lebanon

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has released new footage showcasing the destruction of a significant Hezbollah strategic tunnel network located in the Ali Taher ridge area of southern Lebanon. The operation, led by forces from Division 36, the Commando Brigade, and the Yahalom unit, successfully neutralized the underground infrastructure after an extended period of activity. The network comprised eight underground routes totaling over 5.4 kilometers and served as a crucial command and control center for Hezbollah's "Bader" unit.

During the operation, IDF soldiers navigated the tunnels, encountering and eliminating Hezbollah operatives. The destruction involved the use of over 1,100 tons of explosives. The ground operation included a tactical deception, with IDF forces crossing the Litani River and capturing the Beaufort ridge from an unexpected direction, subsequently encircling the area and increasing pressure on militants entrenched within the tunnels. Hezbollah operatives attempting to exit or resupply were neutralized by air strikes, artillery fire, and ground forces.

Inside the tunnel network, command posts, living quarters, and weapons storage facilities were discovered, enabling Hezbollah operatives to fortify themselves and conduct operations for extended durations. Among the findings were dozens of explosive drones and UAVs, anti-tank missiles, machine guns, RPGs, hundreds of mines and explosives, and additional military equipment, much of which was reportedly manufactured in Iran. The tunnel system had been under construction for approximately two decades, funded and guided by Iran, and was utilized by the "Bader" unit during various conflicts.

The IDF stated that the destruction of the Ali Taher tunnels, along with previous operations against Hezbollah infrastructure in the Beaufort ridge, Majdal Zoun, and villages like Arnon, Yuhmor, and Tibnit, represents a significant strategic achievement. Hezbollah has lost a key strategic asset used for command, entrenchment, and planning attacks against Israel. The IDF emphasized its commitment to the ceasefire agreement but will not permit Hezbollah to rebuild its capabilities or advance terror plans against northern Israel and its forces. In response to Iranian threats, the IDF is preparing for various scenarios, including a multi-front conflict.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu described the destroyed tunnels as "the largest Iranian outpost outside Iran," while Defense Minister Israel Katz affirmed that "we promised and delivered. The terrorists were eliminated and the Ali Taher tunnels were destroyed."
