IDF Completes Four-Month Operation to Clear Hezbollah Stronghold in Southern Lebanon

The Israeli military has concluded a complex, four-month operation to clear the Ali Taher ridge in southern Lebanon, a key stronghold of Hezbollah. The operation, described as one of the most challenging in recent years, involved crossing the Litani River, intense ground and underground combat, and extensive intelligence gathering.

Forces from multiple units, including the Givati Brigade, 7th Brigade, Dovdevan Unit, and Yahalom, engaged in fierce fighting against Hezbollah operatives. Initial stages involved sophisticated deception tactics and the opening of alternative routes due to Hezbollah's control of the Litani River area. The operation also included assaults on terrorist targets and close-quarters combat.

After securing the Beaufort area, the focus shifted to the Ali Taher ridge, which served as Hezbollah's command and control center. A significant challenge was the extensive underground tunnel network, spanning approximately 5,400 meters, which took three months to clear and destroy using tons of explosives. The IDF reported the complete destruction of Iranian-supplied "Khazber" infrastructure in the area.

Despite continuous efforts by Hezbollah to resupply and reinforce the ridge, the IDF intercepted and eliminated operatives, preventing them from regaining control. The military estimates dozens of Hezbollah fighters were active in the area, with some killed and others escaping.

The IDF emphasized that the operation is not the end of its activities in Lebanon. Brigades 36 and 91 continue to operate in the region, prepared for further counter-terrorism actions to prevent Hezbollah's re-establishment. The military's message is clear: Israel will not withdraw from areas of operation, and any attempt by Hezbollah to rebuild its capabilities or approach the border will be met with immediate military response.
