IDF Destroys Extensive Hezbollah Tunnel Network in Ali Taher Ridge

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has successfully destroyed a significant Hezbollah tunnel infrastructure on the Ali Taher Ridge, neutralizing a strategic asset built over two decades. The operation involved demolishing 14 tunnel routes totaling over 5.4 kilometers in length, using approximately 1,100 tons of explosives. The IDF stated that around 50 Hezbollah operatives were entrenched in the complex, which served as a nerve center for the group's Badr unit.

Described by a senior military official as one of the most complex operations in recent years, the assault began with forces crossing the Litani River. Deception tactics were employed to mislead Hezbollah about the intended crossing point, while a hidden bypass route was established over several days. Elite units, including the Golani Reconnaissance Unit and the Egoz Unit, led the initial clearing operations, encountering surprise among Hezbollah fighters who left behind personal belongings and weapons.

As Israeli forces advanced towards the main underground facilities, resistance intensified. The military official noted that Hezbollah fought for the ridge with unusual ferocity, with most of the approximately 50 operatives present being eliminated either within the tunnels or during escape attempts. Close-quarters combat occurred in some instances between Israeli soldiers and militants.

The subsequent phase focused on the tunnel system itself, where combat engineers from the Yahalom unit meticulously planted and detonated the large quantity of explosives. The destruction of this extensive infrastructure, built over more than 20 years, has significantly degraded Hezbollah's command and control capabilities in the region, with no comparable facilities existing north of the site until the Dahieh district in Beirut.

While the IDF is not currently observing any direct operational response from Iran, they remain on high alert, preparing defenses against both Iran and Hezbollah. Despite the successful demolition, Israeli forces will maintain their presence along the 'blue line' border, repositioning to ensure continued control and prevent Hezbollah's return to the area.
