IDF Demolishes Hezbollah Tunnels in Largest Ever Explosive Operation

The Israeli military has carried out its largest-ever operational explosion, detonating 1,100 tons of explosives to destroy Hezbollah tunnels in the Ali Taher mountain range in southern Lebanon. The massive blast caused an earthquake felt across Lebanon and northern Israel.

In recent months, forces from Division 36, the Commando Brigade, and the elite Yahalom unit intensified operations against Hezbollah operatives within the subterranean infrastructure. Commando Brigade soldiers first secured the surface area of the mountain range through ambushes, attacks on tunnel entrances using gunfire, grenades, drones, and other means. Subsequently, forces gained control of the underground network.

The operation, aimed at neutralizing Hezbollah's ability to plan and execute terror attacks against Israeli civilians and soldiers from these tunnels, involved clearing eight underground routes totaling over 5,400 meters. During the operation, the IDF discovered and neutralized various weapons, including dozens of explosive drones, UAVs, machine guns, anti-tank missiles, hundreds of mines, RPGs, and other military equipment.

The IDF successfully destroyed most of the underground routes, rendering them unusable for Hezbollah entrenchment and attack planning. This follows previous operations that neutralized tunnels in the Beaufort mountain range and surrounding villages. The IDF stated it will continue to operate in southern Lebanon to eliminate threats to northern Israeli communities and its forces, preventing Hezbollah from carrying out attacks.
