Ben Gurion Airport Eases Parking Restrictions After Holiday Travel Chaos
The Israel Airports Authority announced on Monday that the severe congestion at Ben Gurion Airport's parking facilities has eased, and private vehicles are once again permitted to park at the airport as spaces become available. This announcement comes just one day after the authority issued an unusual directive asking travelers and their escorts to avoid arriving at the airport by private car due to 100% capacity in all parking lots.
The extreme congestion was attributed to the massive travel surge during the High Holidays. The previous instruction to use public transportation sparked significant anger among travelers, particularly because train and bus services to and from the airport had not been adequately increased to meet the high demand. Furthermore, the lack of public transport during weekends and holidays highlighted Israelis' reliance on private vehicles for international travel.
With additional parking spaces now available, a temporary calm appears to have returned to the airport terminal.
