Ben Gurion Airport Parking Reopens After Holiday Rush

Parking facilities at Ben Gurion International Airport are once again open to private vehicles, following a temporary closure due to overwhelming demand. The Israel Airports Authority announced on Monday, September 28, that sufficient parking spaces have become available, allowing passengers and those seeing them off to drive to the airport again, provided spots are open.

Just the day before, the situation was drastically different. On Sunday afternoon, all parking lots at the airport were completely full. The Airports Authority issued an unusual request, urging travelers and their companions to avoid arriving in private cars and instead utilize public transportation until further notice.

The surge in demand was attributed to a significant increase in passenger traffic during the autumn holiday season. Approximately 2.5 million people are expected to pass through Ben Gurion Airport in September. On peak days, the airport handles around 100,000 passengers and up to 600 flights.

To manage the increased workload, the Airports Authority has deployed additional staff and duty managers to coordinate services directly within the terminals.
