Ben Gurion Airport Parking Lots Reopen After Rosh Hashanah Rush
The Israel Airports Authority announced on Monday morning that public parking lots at Ben Gurion Airport have reopened to travelers. This comes after the lots were declared at full capacity due to a surge in passengers during the Rosh Hashanah holiday, prompting an unusual announcement the previous day advising people to use public transportation only.
The authority stated that parking spaces have become available, and passengers can now drive to the airport and park, subject to availability. The closure was attributed to the significant increase in passenger volume during the High Holidays.
Ben Gurion Airport typically experiences a substantial rise in passenger traffic during the High Holidays, with an estimated 2.5 million travelers expected to pass through in September and during the holidays. An additional 500,000 passengers were anticipated at land crossings to Sinai and Jordan.
Peak travel days during this period were projected to be September 10, 17, 22, and 25, with daily passenger numbers expected to reach 100,000, accompanied by approximately 600 flights. The reopening allows travelers to resume arriving by private vehicle, with the Airports Authority wishing the public a happy Sukkot holiday.
