Ben Gurion Airport Parking Reopens After Holiday Rush
The Israel Airports Authority announced Monday morning that parking facilities at Ben Gurion Airport have reopened and passengers can now arrive by private vehicle. The announcement stated, "Starting this morning, parking is available in Ben Gurion Airport lots, as spaces have become available. The public can return to arriving at Ben Gurion Airport by private car and park in the airport lots, subject to availability."
This update follows an unusual request from the authority on Sunday, urging the public not to come to the airport by private car at all due to full parking capacity. The shortage was attributed to the surge in passenger numbers during the High Holidays, which led to all parking lots being completely occupied.
In September alone, approximately 2.5 million passengers are expected to pass through Ben Gurion Airport, nearing its maximum capacity. According to Ministry of Finance forecasts, passenger traffic is projected to reach the airport's peak capacity within 8 to 9 years. By 2035, passenger traffic is anticipated to reach around 40 million annually, the maximum the airport can handle.
