Ben Gurion Airport Parking Full Amid Holiday Travel Surge
Ben Gurion Airport's parking lots are completely full until further notice, the Airports Authority announced Sunday. The authority is urging travelers and those dropping them off to avoid arriving by private car and to instead use public transportation.
The severe parking shortage comes during the peak of the High Holidays and Sukkot festival season, a period expected to see over 1.1 million passengers pass through Israel's main international gateway. Between the end of Yom Kippur on September 22 and the end of Sukkot on October 4, approximately 1.13 million passengers are projected to travel, with over 90,000 passengers daily during Sukkot itself.
Last Thursday, September 24, saw around 105,000 passengers and 614 flights. This coming Thursday, October 1, is expected to handle another 100,000 passengers. Popular destinations for holiday travelers include Greece, Cyprus, Italy, the United Arab Emirates, the United States, Germany, Georgia, and France.
The Airports Authority stated that it would issue another update once the parking situation changes.
