Ben Gurion Airport Reopens Parking Lots Amid Holiday Travel Surge
The Israel Airports Authority announced on Monday morning the reopening of public parking lots at Ben Gurion Airport, following the availability of parking spaces. This decision allows passengers and those accompanying them to once again arrive at the airport by private vehicle, subject to availability.
The move comes after the airport experienced severe traffic congestion and full parking facilities during the Sukkot holiday travel period. Just the previous day, the Authority had issued an unusual notice urging travelers not to arrive by private car due to complete occupancy of all short and long-term parking areas.
Ben Gurion Airport is currently experiencing peak travel season, with over a million passengers expected between Yom Kippur and October 4th. Daily passenger numbers are exceeding 90,000, with projections of over 100,000 passengers on the upcoming Thursday, making it one of the busiest days. The holiday period, coupled with reduced public transportation options, has led many travelers to opt for private cars, contributing to the parking challenges.
