Hamas Operative Arrested After Killing Israeli Man Near West Bank Spring

Israeli security forces have arrested a Hamas operative believed to be responsible for the fatal shooting attack near the Ein Sapir spring in the West Bank on Sunday, which killed 37-year-old Natanel Shicron. The Shin Bet and the IDF's Duvdevan unit apprehended the suspect, a 37-year-old Hamas operative from the Bir Zeit area, at a hospital in Ramallah.

Intelligence suggests the attacker acted alone and had scouted the spring the day before the attack. He reportedly exploited the tradition of people visiting the spring for ritual immersion ahead of Yom Kippur. Shicron, a father of six, was at the spring with his 16-year-old son when the attack occurred. A nearby tracker opened fire on the assailant, wounding him before the attacker fled.

The suspect, identified as a Hamas operative, escaped to a Ramallah hospital where he was subsequently arrested. His vehicle and the weapon used in the attack were recovered. Security forces are continuing to investigate whether the attacker received assistance from others.

Natanel Shicron, a resident of the Ali Zahav settlement and an information systems analyst, is survived by his wife, Dr. Me'irav Shicron, a lecturer at Ariel University, and their six children. The head of the Shomron Regional Council, Yossi Dagan, eulogized Shicron as a "man of kindness, humble and loving people, a devoted family man who was murdered while finishing immersion with his son."

Shicron's funeral was scheduled for Sunday night.
