Hamas Operative Arrested After Killing Israeli Man Near West Bank Spring

Israeli security forces have arrested a Hamas operative suspected of carrying out a shooting attack near the Ein Sapir spring in the West Bank, which killed Natanel Shicron, a father of six. The Shin Bet and the IDF's Duvdevan unit apprehended the suspect at a hospital in Ramallah after receiving intelligence on his whereabouts. The suspect, identified as a 37-year-old Hamas operative from the Bir Zeit area, allegedly acted alone and had scouted the location the day before the attack. He reportedly exploited the tradition of people visiting the spring for ritual immersion ahead of Yom Kippur.

Shicron was at the spring with his 16-year-old son, who was unharmed, when the assailant opened fire. A tracker present at the scene as part of a patrol engaged the suspect, wounding him before the attacker fled. The suspect, injured, then escaped to a hospital in Ramallah, where he was subsequently arrested. His vehicle and the weapon used in the attack were recovered.

Security forces are continuing efforts to determine if the suspect received assistance from others. Natanel Shicron, a resident of the Ali Zahav settlement, worked as an information systems analyst and is survived by his wife, Dr. Meirav Shicron, a lecturer at Ariel University, and their six children. The head of the Samaria Regional Council, Yossi Dagan, eulogized Shicron as a kind and devoted family man who was murdered while performing a religious ritual with his son.
