Israeli Man Dies After West Bank Spring Shooting Attack; Gunman Captured

An Israeli man, approximately 30 years old, has died from injuries sustained in a shooting attack near the settlement of Neve Tzuf in the Benjamin region of the West Bank. The victim was shot while bathing in a spring close to the settlement by a gunman who fired from a passing Mitsubishi vehicle with Palestinian license plates. The assailant fled the scene on foot.

Israeli security forces, including the IDF's Benjamin Regional Brigade, the Duvdevan Unit, additional reinforcement companies, and the Israel Police, launched a pursuit of the suspect. During the chase, a tracker fired at the gunman, wounding him. The suspect was later apprehended by soldiers inside a hospital in Ramallah.

Magen David Adom paramedics described finding the victim in critical condition with multiple gunshot wounds and unconscious. They provided immediate life-saving treatment, including blood products, during transport to the hospital, where his death was eventually pronounced.

Local leaders condemned the attack. Yossi Dagan, head of the Samaria Regional Council, called for increased security operations in Palestinian villages, including house-to-house searches for illegal weapons and dismantling terror infrastructure. He also urged the immediate reinstatement of security checkpoints on roads, stating Israel must move from defense to offense to restore deterrence and security.

Israel Gantz, head of the Benjamin Regional Council, who was at the scene, noted that residents were visiting the spring for ritual immersion ahead of Yom Kippur when the attack occurred. He expressed confidence that the community would overcome the incident and that the site would be filled with visitors during the Sukkot holiday.
