Israeli Man Killed in West Bank Shooting Attack, Gunman Captured

A 37-year-old Hamas operative killed an Israeli man and wounded another in a shooting attack near the settlement of Neve Tzuf in the West Bank on Sunday. The victim, Natanel Shkaron, a father of six from the settlement of Ali Zahav, was shot while visiting the Ein Riye spring with his eldest son to immerse himself ahead of Yom Kippur. He was evacuated to Beilinson Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Following the attack, Israeli security forces launched an extensive manhunt for the assailant, involving ground and air assets. Hours later, the gunman, identified as a Hamas operative from Biddu, was apprehended in a structure in the Samaria region. He had been injured during the escape by a nearby brigade tracker and was taken to a hospital. The weapon used in the attack was recovered.

In response to the incident, Israeli security forces are significantly increasing their presence in the West Bank ahead of the Yom Kippur holiday, deploying dozens of battalions and commando units. Curfews have been imposed on several villages in the Benjamin region, and intelligence-driven operations targeting dozens of locations are expected, including the arrest of suspected accomplices and the potential demolition of the attacker's home.

Separately, on the same day, Israeli forces shot and killed another Palestinian attacker who attempted to carry out a ramming attack against soldiers in the Ganim area of the Menashe Brigade. An individual who was with the driver was arrested, and no Israeli casualties were reported.

IDF Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi stated that the military is on high alert across all fronts, emphasizing the mission to thwart terrorism and protect Israeli citizens. Local leaders, including Samaria Regional Council head Yossi Dagan, mourned Shkaron and called for a shift from defense to offense against terrorism in the region.
