Israeli Man Killed in West Bank Shooting Attack, Gunman Captured

A gunman opened fire on Israelis at a natural spring near the settlement of Neve Tzuf in the West Bank on Sunday, killing Natanel Sharon, a father of six. Sharon had gone to the spring with his eldest son to immerse himself ahead of Yom Kippur. He was evacuated to Beilinson Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

An intensive manhunt involving ground and air forces was launched for the shooter, who fled the scene. Hours later, the gunman, identified as a 37-year-old Hamas operative from Biddu, was apprehended alive in a structure in the Samaria region. The IDF stated that a brigade tracker near the scene shot and wounded the suspect as he fled, before he was eventually captured.

Natanel Sharon worked as an information systems analyst and is survived by his wife, Merav, a lecturer at Ariel University, and their six children. The attack occurred as Israelis were bathing at the Ein Riye spring. The shooter reportedly exited his vehicle and fled on foot.

Following the capture, calls were renewed for the implementation of the death penalty for terrorists, with MK Limor Son Har Melech urging prosecutors to seek the maximum sentence. Conversely, MK Yulia Malinovsky criticized the existing law and the government's handling of the situation, including the medical treatment provided to the captured terrorist.

In response to the attack, security forces are significantly increasing their presence in Judea and Samaria ahead of Yom Kippur, with dozens of battalions and commando units deploying. Several villages in the Benjamin region have been placed under lockdown, and intelligence-led operations are expected to target dozens of locations, including the arrest of potential accomplices and mapping the gunman's home for demolition.

Separately, shortly after the Neve Tzuf shooting, IDF forces killed a terrorist who attempted to carry out a ramming attack against soldiers in the Ganim area of Menashe. The driver was shot and killed, and an additional individual in the vehicle was arrested. No Israeli soldiers were harmed in that incident. The IDF Chief of Staff, Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir, visited the Neve Tzuf attack site and affirmed the military's high alert status and commitment to counter-terrorism.
