Israeli Man Murdered in West Bank Shooting Attack; Gunman Captured

A man identified as Natanel Sharon, approximately 30 years old and from the settlement of Eli Zahav in the Samaria region, was killed Sunday in a shooting attack. The assailant fired from Route 465 towards a spring near the settlement of Nofim, also known as Halmish, in the Benjamin region. Paramedics attempted to save Sharon's life but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Following an extensive manhunt involving IDF units, including the Duvdevan commando unit, and the Shin Bet security agency, the gunman was apprehended alive. The IDF reported that a brigade tracker who arrived at the scene shortly after the shooting fired at the suspect, wounding him before he fled. Duvdevan forces eventually located and captured the suspect at a nearby hospital. The IDF stated the gunman exited his vehicle and fled on foot, still armed.

During the pursuit, roadblocks were established, and ground searches were conducted with aerial support. IDF Chief of Staff Aviv Kochavi visited the scene and ordered a lockdown of nearby villages, a continued search for accomplices, and the sealing and demolition of the attacker's home. Kochavi stated, "This is a difficult attack, and I send our condolences to the victim's family. We achieved a swift closure, the despicable terrorist was captured by IDF forces. Our mission is not over, we will impose a lockdown on the village, conduct investigations, and thereby reach everyone who assisted the terrorist." He added that forces were on high alert for the upcoming Yom Kippur holiday, with increased deployments across all fronts.

Head of the Benjamin Regional Council and Chairman of the Yesha Council, Yisrael Gantz, also visited the site. He described the incident as a resident coming to immerse in a spring before Yom Kippur when an armed terrorist opened fire. "This is a very difficult event, but we are strong and will overcome it," Gantz said. "With God's help, during Sukkot, this place will be full of hikers; no one will drive us from here."
