Defense Minister Katz Appoints New Central Command Chief Amid Sharp Criticism of Predecessor

During a live interview on the program "Patriots," Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Katz announced the appointment of Major General Dado Bar-Kalifa as the new commander of the Central Command. The announcement came alongside strong criticism of the current commander, Major General Avi Blot. Katz expressed dissatisfaction with Blot's handling of recent security matters and emphasized his own authority over military decisions.

Katz also addressed the issue of administrative detentions, stating that he had canceled their use against Jewish suspects, despite a protest from an audience member who disputed this claim. He discussed the case of Tal Yinon Dradik, who is suspected of serious offenses, noting that while the Central Command commander has authority over residency restrictions, such powers should be exercised cautiously and based on Shin Bet recommendations. Katz advocated for criminal investigations and legal proceedings when evidence exists.

Regarding Dradik's movements, Katz said he is allowed to visit his parents but barred from entering Area B due to tensions with American forces. He criticized both Blot and the prosecution for appealing Dradik's release, calling their actions contrary to his policy and stating he had raised the issue with the IDF Chief of Staff. Katz concluded by affirming his full control over the military system and his desire for the Central Command to actively pursue decisive victories while protecting settlers.
