IDF Eliminates Hamas Nukhba Operatives, Including Oct. 7 Participant
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced the elimination of two Hamas Nukhba special forces operatives in northern Gaza. One of the operatives, Sharif Shadi Ibrahim Labad, was allegedly involved in the October 7, 2023, attack on the Erez crossing, according to the IDF. Labad was killed in an airstrike on Tuesday, September 15. The previous day, a separate strike eliminated Yusuf Saad ad-Din az-Zaim, whom the IDF identified as a Nukhba commander.
The IDF stated that both operatives were recently engaged in planning attacks against Israeli soldiers and civilians and were working to rebuild Hamas's military capabilities. The army asserted that these activities constituted a systematic violation of the ceasefire and that the strikes were carried out to neutralize an immediate threat.
According to the IDF, measures were taken to minimize civilian harm before the strikes, including the use of precision munitions and aerial surveillance. Gaza sources had previously identified Sharif Shadi Ibrahim Labad as a "civil defense employee" and reported his death on September 15 in the Sheikh Radwan area of Gaza City.
