IDF Eliminates Hamas Nukhba Commander Involved in Tank Crew Abductions
The Israeli military announced on Thursday that it had eliminated Jihad Samih Mahmoud Ismail, a Hamas Nukhba commando unit commander, in an airstrike in Khan Younis, southern Gaza. Ismail had infiltrated southern Israel from the Gaza Strip during the October 7th Hamas-led attack and participated in a clash with an Israeli armored crew from tank number 3. During that engagement, tank driver Sergeant Shaked Dahan was killed. Ismail was also involved in the abduction of Captain Omer Nautra, Sergeant Major Oz Daniel, and Sergeant Nimrod Cohen, whose bodies were later returned to Israel as part of Operation "Shuvim Ligbolam." Sergeant Dahan's body was recovered by IDF forces in August 2024.
Throughout the war, Ismail was reportedly involved in ambushes against IDF forces and, more recently, was advancing terror plans while systematically violating the ceasefire. The IDF stated that Ismail was eliminated to neutralize the threat he posed, and that Southern Command forces operating in the area will continue to act to remove any immediate threats.
