IDF Eliminates Hamas Nukhba Commander in Gaza, Captures Terrorist Leader in Jenin

The Israeli military announced last week that it had eliminated a Hamas Nukhba commander in southern Gaza who participated in the October 7th attacks. The individual, Jihad Samik Mahmoud Ismail, was identified as a commander in Hamas's military wing and was involved in infiltrating Israel on October 7th. According to the IDF, Ismail engaged with an Israeli tank crew, participated in the abduction of several soldiers, and was involved in the death of a tank driver during the initial assault. During the subsequent war, he reportedly took part in ambushes against Israeli soldiers and was recently advancing plans for attacks against Israeli soldiers and civilians, violating the ceasefire.

The IDF stated that Ismail was eliminated to neutralize an imminent threat. In a separate operation, Israeli special forces from the Duvdevan unit, with assistance from the Shin Bet security agency, apprehended Muhammad Saadi near Burqin, close to Jenin. Saadi is described as a leader of a terrorist group that operated in Jenin and was eliminated during the "Operation Defensive Shield." The IDF and Shin Bet reported that Saadi was linked to Palestinian Islamic Jihad and managed and coordinated funds for terrorist activities.

The IDF confirmed that its Southern Command forces continue to operate in Gaza in accordance with the ceasefire, while security forces will persist in operations to thwart terrorist activities in Judea and Samaria.
