IDF Eliminates Hamas Nukhba Terrorist Involved in Tank Crew Abduction

The Israeli military announced last week the elimination of Jihad Samih Mahmoud Ismail, a Hamas Nukhba operative, in an airstrike in southern Gaza's Khan Younis. The IDF stated that Ismail was targeted to neutralize an ongoing threat, as he had recently advanced terror plans against Israeli forces and civilians, systematically violating the ceasefire.

Ismail was reportedly involved in the October 7th attack, specifically in an engagement with armored forces from Tank 3 and the abduction of its crew: Captain Omer Naotara, Sergeant Major Oz Daniel (both deceased), and Sergeant Nimrod Cohen. During this encounter, Tank 3's driver, Sergeant Shaked Dahan (deceased), was also injured. The bodies of Captain Naotara and Sergeant Major Daniel were returned during a late 2025 ceasefire agreement, when Sergeant Cohen was also released. Sergeant Dahan's body was recovered by IDF forces in August 2024. The military added that Ismail had participated in ambushes against IDF forces during the war.

This strike follows a series of recent operations against senior Hamas officials. On the evening prior, Nail Abu Eid, commander of Hamas's Rafah Brigade, was killed in a drone strike. Abu Eid had replaced his predecessor, Mohammed Shebana, who was eliminated in Khan Younis alongside Hamas's then-military wing chief Mohammed Sinwar. The operation in southern Gaza was led by the Southern Command.

Additionally, Ahmed Batsh, commander of the Jabalia battalion in Hamas's northern Gaza brigade, was killed overnight. The IDF stated Batsh was responsible for organizing the brigade's weaponry and was involved in supplying arms and military equipment to operatives. He was also accused of advancing terror plans and working to restore the organization's capabilities.

Separately, over the weekend in Khan Younis, Muhsen Abu Dha'af, a rocket cell leader in Palestinian Islamic Jihad, was eliminated. The IDF and Shin Bet reported that Abu Dha'af participated in the October 7th attack in the Kissufim area and had recently advanced terror plans against Israeli forces and civilians.
