IDF Eliminates Hamas Nukhba Commander Involved in Oct. 7 Tank Battle and Abductions
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced this past week that it had eliminated Jihad Samih Mahmoud Ismail, a commander in Hamas's military wing and a leader of a Nukhba unit. The strike occurred in the Khan Younis area of southern Gaza.
According to the IDF, Ismail infiltrated Israeli territory from southern Gaza on October 7th and participated in an engagement with IDF armored corps soldiers from a tank. He was involved in the abduction of Captain Omer Naotara, Sergeant Oz Daniel, and Staff Sergeant Nimrod Cohen. During the same engagement, Tank Driver Staff Sergeant Shaked Dahan was killed.
Throughout the recent conflict, Ismail was reportedly involved in ambushes targeting IDF forces. More recently, he was reportedly advancing terror plans against IDF soldiers and Israeli civilians, systematically violating a ceasefire.
The IDF stated that Ismail was eliminated to neutralize the threat he posed. Forces under the Southern Command remain deployed in the area and will continue to operate to remove any immediate threats.
