Israel Eliminates Hamas Nukhba Unit Leader Tied to Oct. 7 Abductions
The Israeli military announced this week that it eliminated Jihad Samih Mahmoud Ismail in a strike in the southern Gaza Strip city of Khan Younis last Thursday. According to the IDF, Ismail led a Nukhba unit, an elite force within Hamas's armed wing. The military stated that Ismail infiltrated Israeli territory from southern Gaza during the October 7, 2023, attack. He is accused of participating in a clash with a tank crew and the subsequent abduction of Captain Omer Neutra, Master Sergeant Oz Daniel, and Sergeant Nimrod Cohen. Sergeant Shaked Dahan, the tank's driver, was also injured in the confrontation. The IDF further claims Ismail was involved in ambushes against Israeli forces during the war and was recently planning new attacks against soldiers and civilians, violating a ceasefire. The military stated the strike was carried out to neutralize the threat he posed. Israeli forces remain deployed in the area and will continue to act against immediate threats, according to the IDF.
