IDF Eliminates Hamas Nukhba Commander Involved in Oct. 7 Abductions

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) eliminated Jihad Samih Mahmoud Ismail, a commander in Hamas's military wing Nukhba, in an airstrike last Thursday in Khan Younis, southern Gaza.

According to the IDF, Ismail participated in the October 7th massacre and the subsequent abduction of three Israeli armored corps soldiers. The IDF stated that Ismail infiltrated southern Gaza into Israeli territory during the October 7th attack, engaging with soldiers from Tank Number 3. He was directly involved in the kidnapping of Captain Omer Naot, Sergeant Major Oz Daniel, and Sergeant Nimrod Cohen, all of whom were killed. The tank driver, Sergeant Shaked Dahan, was also injured in the same engagement.

The IDF emphasized that Ismail's activities extended beyond October 7th. During the ongoing war, he was involved in ambushes targeting IDF forces operating in the Strip and was recently promoting terror plans against both soldiers and Israeli civilians. The military noted that his elimination was carried out to neutralize the threat he posed, following systematic violations of the ceasefire.

The strike occurred in Khan Younis, the same area from which Ismail reportedly launched his infiltration into Israel on October 7th. The IDF did not provide further details regarding the circumstances of the strike. Southern Command forces remain deployed in the area, and the IDF reiterated its commitment to continuing operations to eliminate any immediate threats to Israeli soldiers and civilians.
