Israel Launches Nationwide Increased Traffic Enforcement

The Traffic Division and the National Road Safety Authority commenced a heightened enforcement operation across Israel on Wednesday morning, targeting both urban and intercity roads. The operation, which began in the early morning hours, is scheduled to continue until late at night.

The enforcement will focus on critical roads identified by the Traffic Division's research and development department, aiming to combat dangerous driving behaviors and life-threatening traffic violations. All units of the Traffic Division are participating, including the aerial unit, which will document traffic offenses from above, and drones will also be utilized for surveillance.

Hundreds of police officers and patrol cars will be deployed throughout the country, employing various methods such as still cameras, tactical cameras, laser speed detectors, and speed cameras. This initiative is part of an ongoing effort to reduce road fatalities.

As of Wednesday, 309 people have been killed on Israeli roads since the beginning of the year. While this figure is slightly lower than the 321 fatalities recorded during the same period last year, which was historically high, the number of deaths has generally remained below 300 for this time of year over the past decade.
