Israel Police Launch Nationwide Road Safety Campaign
The Israeli Police Traffic Division launched an extensive, intensive nationwide campaign on Wednesday morning aimed at enforcing traffic laws. The operation, which will continue into the night, focuses on increased monitoring of traffic violations within cities and on inter-city roads. Hundreds of police officers, patrols, and volunteers, supported by enhanced traffic units, are participating to bolster vehicle movement oversight and detect violations, in an effort to reduce road accidents.
The campaign also involves the police's air unit, utilizing drones for aerial surveillance and documentation of traffic offenses. Various technological tools, including fixed and tactical cameras, speed measurement devices, and patrols on motorcycles and vehicles, will be deployed across the country.
This initiative comes amid a persistent rise in fatal road accidents in Israel in recent years. Data indicates that 2025 was particularly deadly, with approximately 400 fatalities, a 6% increase compared to 2024, making last year one of the bloodiest on record for road safety.
An analysis by the "Or Yarok" (Green Light) association of National Statistics Authority data revealed that the first ten months of 2025 (January 1 to November 1) recorded the highest number of road fatalities for the comparable period over the last two decades. Police stated the campaign's objective is to enhance enforcement and deterrence, prioritizing violations that pose the greatest risk to road users in both urban and inter-city environments.
