Israel Launches Nationwide Traffic Enforcement Campaign to Curb Road Fatalities

Israel's Traffic Division and the National Road Safety Authority commenced a heightened enforcement operation across the country on Wednesday morning. The campaign, targeting both urban and intercity roads, began in the early morning hours and will continue until late at night.

The operation aims to enforce traffic laws decisively, focusing on dangerous driving behaviors and life-threatening violations. Hundreds of police officers and patrol cars will be deployed throughout Israel, utilizing a range of methods including still cameras, tactical cameras, laser speed detectors, and speed cameras. The aerial unit of the Israel Police will also participate, documenting traffic offenses from above, with enforcement also conducted via drones.

This initiative is part of a broader effort to reduce road fatalities. As of Wednesday, 309 people have died on Israeli roads since the beginning of the year. While this figure is lower than the 321 deaths recorded during the same period last year, which was historically high, it remains a significant concern, as most years in the past decade have seen fewer than 300 fatalities by this point.

The enforcement will concentrate on roads identified by the Traffic Division's research and development department as having the greatest impact on road safety. The goal is to implement life-saving measures and combat dangerous driving.
