Israel Police Launch Nationwide Road Safety Operation

On Wednesday, September 9th, Israeli traffic police will conduct a large-scale, countrywide operation aimed at enhancing road safety. The initiative will commence early in the morning and continue until late evening, involving hundreds of police officers, patrol vehicles, and volunteers on both urban and intercity roads.

Law enforcement will employ a variety of methods to monitor traffic, including motorcycle patrols, speed detection devices, multiple camera systems, drones, and helicopters. The primary objective is to curb life-threatening violations and reckless driving behavior. Special attention will be given to novice drivers, motorcyclists, and operators of heavy vehicles such as buses and trucks.

Significant enforcement efforts will be concentrated along Highway 6, where a dedicated control unit will be deployed. The operation will focus on accident-prone areas identified by the traffic police's research department. Advanced technology will be utilized to detect and report dangerous maneuvers to patrol units in real-time.

This operation is part of the "Committed to Life" program, a joint effort with the National Road Safety Authority designed to reduce road fatalities. A similar operation in late July resulted in nearly 6,000 fines issued within a single day, with over 1,000 drivers caught using mobile phones while driving. Drivers are also advised that speed limits have been lowered at certain high-risk locations, with stationary cameras set to trigger at lower thresholds.
