Israeli Police Launch Extensive Traffic Enforcement Campaign Using Advanced Cameras
The Israeli Police Traffic Department recently conducted a large-scale enforcement operation in the Yarkon area, utilizing advanced tactical cameras and both overt and covert technological tools. This campaign resulted in the issuance of 460 traffic fines over several days, targeting dangerous driving behaviors and road safety violations. The operation focused on key roads and sensitive locations in central Israel, with the tactical cameras enabling remote documentation of offenses through high-quality video and still images, preventing drivers from denying their violations.
Among the recorded offenses, 48 fines were issued to drivers caught using mobile phones while driving, an infraction carrying a 1,000-shekel fine and eight demerit points due to its high distraction risk. Additionally, 28 fines were given for running red lights, a leading cause of severe side-impact collisions, and 33 fines for crossing solid white lines, which pose immediate head-on collision dangers. The campaign also targeted electric two-wheel vehicle riders, including e-bikes and scooters, who frequently violate traffic laws by ignoring signals and riding on sidewalks. Police issued 94 fines to these riders and confiscated 29 electric vehicles to prevent further illegal use.
A particularly concerning case involved a 15-year-old from Tel Aviv caught riding an electric bike under the influence of drugs. The minor was arrested and is undergoing criminal and traffic investigations, with further welfare measures being considered. The police emphasized that this enforcement campaign is part of an ongoing strategy to deter reckless driving and improve road safety. They continue to invest heavily in advanced imaging technologies that allow issuing fines without stopping vehicles, thus avoiding unnecessary traffic congestion. The police reaffirmed their commitment to reducing road accidents and enhancing public safety through persistent and focused enforcement efforts.
