Israeli Police Launch Nationwide Traffic Enforcement Operation Targeting Dangerous Driving

Starting Thursday morning, Israeli police will initiate a large-scale nationwide traffic enforcement campaign across the country, from the north to the south. The operation, led by the Traffic Department in cooperation with the National Road Safety Authority, will deploy hundreds of officers and volunteers using approximately 500 marked and unmarked vehicles and motorcycles. The goal is to identify and remove dangerous drivers from the roads.

Enforcement efforts will focus on key traffic violations including speeding, distracted driving, lane deviation, and failure to obey traffic signals. Special attention will be given to offenses committed by motorcyclists, scooter riders, and electric bike users. The Traffic Department's central unit detectives will specifically target repeat offenders who pose a significant danger to other road users.

The campaign will utilize various technological tools such as still cameras, tactical cameras, mobile enforcement cameras, "Deborah" devices, and other digital means. Enforcement will take place throughout the day and into the night on both urban and interurban routes identified as high-risk based on accident and violation data.

Traffic Department Chief Commissioner Haim Shmueli emphasized that effective road governance requires consistent enforcement and strict penalties for those endangering lives. He noted that the operation is especially critical during the summer vacation period, which sees increased traffic volumes, family trips to vacation spots, a high number of young and new drivers, and greater use of two-wheeled vehicles. Hundreds of volunteers will join police officers in this effort. Authorities urged all drivers and road users to act responsibly, obey traffic laws, and avoid life-threatening violations.
