Israeli Police Launch Nationwide Traffic Enforcement Operation to Curb Summer Road Accidents
Starting Thursday morning, the Israeli Police will initiate a large-scale nationwide traffic enforcement operation across the country, led by the Traffic Department in cooperation with all regional traffic units. The operation aims to combat deadly road accidents, enhance road safety, and remove dangerous drivers during the busy summer holiday period characterized by heavy traffic.
Hundreds of police officers, patrol vehicles, and advanced technological enforcement tools will be deployed from northern to southern Israel. The enforcement will be continuous and focused throughout the day and late into the night to create a strong deterrent effect and save lives. Participating forces include Traffic Department officers, the national motorcycle patrol unit, heavy vehicle unit officers, detectives from the Traffic Department's Central Unit, and numerous volunteers.
The police will use a variety of advanced technological devices such as still and tactical cameras, radar speed measurement devices, and digital tools to strengthen road control and immediately remove dangerous drivers. Prior to the operation, the Traffic Department's research and development unit analyzed accident data to identify high-risk roads and locations, both intercity and urban, to target enforcement effectively.
The operation will prioritize enforcement against serious traffic violations that endanger lives, including speeding, distracted driving (such as using mobile phones), lane deviation, running red lights, and offenses by two-wheeled vehicle riders like motorcyclists and electric bike riders. In addition to visible enforcement, undercover detectives will target known dangerous traffic offenders to remove them from the roads.
The timing of the operation coincides with the summer vacation period, when traffic volume increases significantly due to family trips and a rise in young and new drivers on the roads, especially at night. There is also an increase in two-wheeled vehicle use during hot summer days, raising rider vulnerability. The enhanced enforcement aims to increase all road users' safety and prevent further accidents.
Traffic Department Chief Commissioner Chaim Shmueli emphasized that roads are not places for gambling or shortcuts and called on drivers to choose to be part of the solution by driving responsibly. He urged patience, respect for other road users, and reminded that every journey ends with families waiting for their loved ones to return safely. The Israeli Police reiterated their call for responsible driving and adherence to traffic laws, stressing that effective enforcement saves lives.
