Israeli Police Issue Nearly 6,000 Traffic Violation Tickets in Nationwide Enforcement Operation

The Israeli police conducted a nationwide traffic enforcement operation focused on life-threatening violations, resulting in nearly 6,000 tickets issued in a single day. The crackdown took place on Thursday across the country and targeted offenses such as distracted driving, speeding, and running red lights. Specifically, 1,072 tickets were issued for distracted driving and mobile phone use, 211 for speeding, and 116 for crossing intersections on red lights. Additionally, 165 tickets were given for failing to yield to pedestrians.

The operation also uncovered 14 drivers operating vehicles while their licenses were suspended and 17 drivers who were not authorized to drive the vehicle type they were using. Authorities confiscated 42 licenses, impounded 81 vehicles, and made 11 arrests. Digital enforcement tools processed 1,599 speeding and red-light violations, which were sent to vehicle owners, alongside 103 additional violations captured by road patrol cameras.

Police highlighted a concerning trend of driving instructors using mobile phones during lessons, posing significant risks to students and other road users. The operation also identified drivers suspected of drug-impaired driving, including one caught driving under suspension while under the influence near the coast, leading to license revocation. Another driver was arrested after assaulting a policewoman and refusing detention, while a third was found driving under the influence with a joint and was released under house arrest with license suspension.

This enforcement effort was part of a joint campaign by the Traffic Department and the National Road Safety Authority called "Committed to Life," which also deployed additional patrol vehicles on Israeli roads to enhance traffic safety.
