Israeli Traffic Police Use Drones to Remove Dangerous Drivers in Summer Crackdown

The Israeli National Traffic Police launched an intensified enforcement campaign during the summer months to combat life-threatening driving offenses. Utilizing advanced digital tools including drones, tactical cameras, and speed measurement devices, officers identified and removed dozens of dangerous drivers from the roads. The operation involved collaboration between the National Traffic Police, the national motorcycle patrol, and the specialized heavy vehicle unit, focusing on serious violations such as speeding, illegal overtaking, distracted driving, and unsafe vehicle conditions.

Among the recorded offenses were a semi-trailer truck driver caught using a mobile phone while crossing an intersection dangerously, and another truck driver operating a vehicle with broken and cracked windows, posing significant road hazards. Private vehicle drivers were also caught exceeding speed limits, with some recorded driving at 147 km/h in 90 km/h zones, resulting in 30-day license suspensions. One driver admitted to not checking the speedometer when stopped by police.

This enforcement effort is part of a nationwide campaign called "Committed to Life," a joint initiative by the Traffic Department and the National Road Safety Authority aimed at reducing road fatalities. The campaign includes increased patrol vehicles on Israeli roads and will continue intensively throughout August, a peak travel period with heavy traffic and family trips. The police emphasized the importance of safe and responsible driving with the message: "Drive safely, we are waiting for you at home!"
