Israel Eliminates Hamas Operatives Tied to Oct. 7 Attacks and Hostage Holding
Israeli security forces have eliminated several Hamas operatives involved in the October 7th massacre and subsequent hostage-taking. Nail Abu-Obeid, a Hamas commander in Rafah, was killed in an airstrike this week. He was previously involved in holding the remains of Israeli soldiers, including Lieutenant Hadar Goldin, as leverage against Israel. Following the October 7th attacks, Abu-Obeid participated in holding live hostages, such as Nimrod Cohen, in tunnels under Rafah. In his recent role, he commanded militants, ordered attacks on IDF forces, and worked to rebuild the Rafah brigade after heavy wartime losses.
On Thursday, September 17th, Muhammad Suleiman Bauk, a commander in Hamas's military wing, was killed in an airstrike in Khan Younis. He participated in the October 7th invasion, identified by cameras, and had been planting explosives in Gaza throughout the war. Bauk also planned attacks against Israeli forces and civilians, trained militants, and worked to restore Hamas's military capabilities.
Earlier, on Tuesday, September 15th, the IDF eliminated Sharif Ibrahim Labed in the northern Gaza Strip near Gaza City. Labed had participated in the October 7th attack on the Erez border crossing, where nine soldiers were killed. Security forces emphasized that these operations are aimed at neutralizing ongoing threats, not as acts of revenge.
