Israel Captures Hamas Security Chief in Gaza Raid

The Israeli military (IDF) conducted a multi-stage operation to arrest a senior Hamas official in the Gaza Strip on September 1st. Months of surveillance and detailed intelligence gathering by the Shin Bet security agency preceded the successful special operation. Mu'ain al-Arbid, whom Israel identifies as the head of Hamas's internal security service, was apprehended at his villa.

The Shin Bet had been monitoring al-Arbid for an extended period, studying his routines and movements. Preparations for the capture began at least two days prior, with a civilian-disguised van reportedly used for surveillance in his neighborhood. This vehicle was absent from the convoy that approached his home on the day of the operation.

Israeli special forces arrived at al-Arbid's villa in disguised pickup trucks and a small truck. One unit entered the house, where al-Arbid was with his family, while another provided external cover. Al-Arbid's sons reportedly opened fire upon the arrival of the special forces, and two bodyguards engaged Israeli soldiers. Sources claim al-Arbid's wife was killed at close range, and his sons and bodyguards sustained serious injuries. Al-Arbid himself was wounded, detained, and evacuated from Gaza.

To ensure the safe extraction of Shin Bet forces, the IDF provided air support. Fighter jets struck military targets to isolate the area of the operation. Hamas sources are attempting to downplay the significance of the arrest, asserting that al-Arbid held a leadership role only within the organization's internal security, not its entire system.
