Israel Captures Hamas Security Chief in Gaza Operation

Israeli security forces have captured Moain Al-A'arabid, identified as the head of Hamas's internal security apparatus, in a dramatic operation in Gaza City. Al-A'arabid, who reportedly arrived in Israel wounded, is now being interrogated by Israeli security officials who believe he possesses significant intelligence due to his high-ranking position.

The operation, planned to be highly secretive by the Shin Bet, became public due to leaks and circulating footage from Gaza. Initially, Israeli authorities intended to withhold details, but the widespread dissemination of information led them to release some facts. The capture followed extensive surveillance, with the "golden intelligence" and operational opportunity arising recently.

Contrary to initial reports, no other militias were involved in the arrest. The operation involved forces raiding Al-A'arabid's home in the Al-Khatiba area of western Gaza City. Reports from Gaza suggest a special forces unit on motorcycles encountered difficulties, prompting Israeli Air Force intervention with extensive strikes to cover the forces' withdrawal.

In response to the arrest, the IDF heightened alert levels along the Gaza border, anticipating a potential reaction from Hamas. While fighter helicopters were observed over Gaza and increased firing occurred in northern areas, no new directives have been issued to residents of the Gaza envelope, with daily life continuing as normal.

Al-A'arabid was responsible for thwarting espionage and intelligence infiltration within Hamas. His role is linked to "Al-Majd," a secret mechanism established in 1986 by Yahya Sinwar and Ruhy Mushtaha, which focused on identifying Palestinians suspected of collaborating with Israel through surveillance and violent interrogations.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that Al-A'arabid is one of Hamas's senior leaders, responsible for concealing and transporting hostages, hiding Hamas officials, and rebuilding the terror group's capabilities. Netanyahu added that Al-A'arabid was involved in efforts to restore Hamas's governance in Gaza and aided in terror operations against security forces.

Hamas confirmed the arrest after a delay, denouncing it as a dangerous act and a violation of the ceasefire agreement. A senior Hamas official accused Israel of kidnapping Al-A'arabid from his residence and urged mediating countries and the international community to act against Israel.
