Israel Captures Senior Hamas Security Chief Amid Gaza Operation

Defense Minister Israel Katz announced Tuesday that Israeli security forces recently apprehended a senior Hamas official, identified as the group's head of general security. Katz made the announcement during a visit to Nativ Ha'asara, stating, "This is our policy: we don't wait for threats, but rather pursue Hamas terrorists, thwart them, and destroy their terror infrastructure."

The arrest comes in the wake of unusual military activity reported in Gaza City earlier that day. Palestinian reports described intense exchanges of fire and numerous Israeli airstrikes, claiming four people were killed and several others injured in over 18 strikes. According to these reports, special forces entered a villa area in the city, with loud explosions heard near the American Hospital. Heavy gunfire was also reported.

Saudi channel Al-Hadath reported that the incident began with an attempted abduction of a prominent figure by a local militia collaborating with Israel. This attempt, the report claims, was exposed, leading to Israeli aerial intervention.

The IDF confirmed it struck several targets in Gaza to neutralize threats to its forces, reporting no casualties among its personnel. Minister Katz did not disclose the identity of the arrested Hamas official or explicitly link the arrest to the Gaza City operation.

Katz reiterated Israel's commitment to operating in Gaza until it is demilitarized and Hamas is disarmed, stating, "We are not leaving Gaza until the Strip is demilitarized, Hamas is disarmed, and all terror tunnels are destroyed." He also warned that any rocket fire from Gaza would be met with a severe response, emphasizing that "the test will not be in their launches, but in our response. And it will be severe."
