IDF and Shin Bet Capture Hamas Interior Security Chief in Gaza Operation
Elite Israeli forces from the Shin Bet security agency and the IDF's Southern Command successfully captured the head of Hamas's internal security apparatus in Gaza City on Tuesday morning. The complex operation, conducted in western Gaza City, involved ground forces supported by extensive aerial cover.
According to security officials, the captured senior Hamas figure was responsible for managing the organization's internal security and repression mechanisms throughout the Gaza Strip. In recent months, he had been actively working to re-establish Hamas control in the northern Gaza Strip and was involved in advancing terror plots against IDF forces operating in the area.
Simultaneously with the ground operation, the Israeli Air Force carried out approximately 18 precise airstrikes in western Gaza City. These strikes were intended to neutralize immediate threats to the ground forces, enabling them to complete their mission and withdraw safely. Palestinian sources reported hearing around 18 explosions and low-flying fighter jets, with some reports indicating exchanges of fire near the American Hospital, resulting in the deaths of four militants and injuries to others. The IDF confirmed strikes on multiple targets to neutralize threats, stating no Israeli forces were harmed.
Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, speaking from Nativ Ha'asara in southern Israel, affirmed this operation as part of Israel's ongoing policy. The captured militant has been transferred to Israel for intensive interrogation, with security officials expecting valuable intelligence on Hamas's command structure, terror infrastructure, and plans for military rehabilitation.
This operation follows a series of recent actions against Hamas leadership, including the killing of a Hamas supply and maintenance company commander two days prior. Security forces are systematically dismantling terror infrastructure and preventing Hamas from rebuilding its military capabilities, particularly in northern Gaza. Officials emphasized that operations against Hamas commanders will continue as long as the organization poses a threat to Israel.
