Israel Captures Senior Hamas Operative in Gaza Operation

Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant revealed on Tuesday that a special operation in western Gaza Strip resulted in the capture of a senior Hamas operative. The announcement followed reports of intense Israeli strikes and exchanges of fire within the territory.

The operation took place in the Nativ Ha'asara area, which was infiltrated by Hamas operatives on October 7th. Gallant stated that the capture demonstrates Israel's policy of actively pursuing and neutralizing Hamas operatives and destroying their infrastructure, rather than waiting for threats.

Gallant also provided an update on Israel's security zone in Gaza, describing it as unprecedented and covering approximately 70% of the strip, free of residents, tunnels, and homes. He affirmed that the IDF controls the area and will remain until Gaza is demilitarized, Hamas is disarmed, and all terror tunnels are destroyed. Following these objectives, the IDF will maintain defensive lines in Gaza to secure the western Negev communities.

Addressing the potential for renewed launches of incendiary balloons and light aircraft from Gaza, Gallant warned of a severe response. He stated that any attempt to bypass the security zone via aerial launches would be met with a strong reaction. Gallant emphasized that Israel would hold Hamas leadership accountable for any harm to Israeli children, equating balloons, kites, and drones as similar threats requiring a forceful response, including the elimination of those responsible and the clearing of neighborhoods from which launches originate.
