Israel Captures Hamas Security Chief in Gaza Operation

Israeli security forces, in a special operation involving the Shin Bet and Southern Command, have captured a senior Hamas official responsible for internal security, Mu'ein Muhammad al-Arabeed, in western Gaza City. The operation, planned for months and managed from a Shin Bet special operations center, was approved by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz.

Initially, Israel considered an airstrike, but shifted to a ground operation to bring al-Arabeed in for questioning. He was injured during the raid but is conscious, communicating, and receiving treatment at an Israeli hospital, reportedly surprised by his abduction. During the operation, four Palestinians, including his wife and son, were killed.

Al-Arabeed, a long-time Hamas member who joined in the 1990s, was targeted because he was involved in rebuilding the organization and hindering its disarmament. Israeli officials stated the operation aimed not only for intelligence but also to create a "sense of pursuit" among Hamas leadership.

He is considered a high-value target due to his role in managing militias cooperating with Israel and his extensive knowledge. Rasam Dahaini, head of the Abu Shabib militia, a key Palestinian participant in the operation, provided significant assistance. Forces reached al-Arabeed's apartment in the al-Kutiba area, leading to an exchange of fire before his extraction.
