Border Police Neutralize Attacker at Jerusalem's Damascus Gate

Border Police officers thwarted a stabbing attempt near Damascus Gate in Jerusalem's Old City early Tuesday morning. A 33-year-old resident of East Jerusalem attempted to attack officers with a knife but was quickly neutralized on the spot, according to police reports. The attacker's death was confirmed at the scene.

The incident occurred around 3:45 AM when officers on patrol noticed the assailant approaching them with a knife. The forces responded swiftly and decisively, preventing any harm to civilians or security personnel. A man in his 30s sustained minor injuries during the confrontation and was evacuated to Shaare Zedek Medical Center.

Jerusalem District Commander Superintendent Absalom Peled arrived at the scene to assess the situation and commended the officers for their rapid and determined response. A statement from the Jerusalem District Police declared, "The city of Jerusalem is safer than ever."

Paramedics who arrived at the scene provided initial medical treatment to the injured man before transporting him to the hospital. This incident follows a series of thwarted attack attempts in Jerusalem recently, with security forces maintaining heightened activity in the Old City area.
