Jerusalem Terror Attempt Foiled at Damascus Gate

Border Police officers thwarted a stabbing attack early Friday morning at Damascus Gate in Jerusalem. According to police, a 33-year-old resident of East Jerusalem approached Border Police officers and attempted to stab them with a knife. The officers responded by firing their weapons, neutralizing the assailant, whose death was pronounced at the scene. No Israeli forces were injured in the incident.

Jerusalem District Commander Superintendent Asher Fuld arrived at the scene and praised the officers' actions, stating, "The officers acted exactly as we expect them to. As the commander of the Jerusalem district, it is important for me to emphasize, the city is safer than ever." The attack occurred hours after a large religious ceremony, the "Hilai" event, which drew approximately 50,000 participants to the Old City.

Separately, in Gaza, an attempt to harm IDF forces occurred around 2:00 AM east of the Gaza border fence. The IDF reported that forces operating in the area were targeted by gunfire. In response, the IDF struck targets in the vicinity. No Israeli soldiers were injured.
