Jerusalem Police Foil Terror Attack, Neutralize Knife-Wielding Assailant

An attempted stabbing attack near the Damascus Gate in Jerusalem's Old City was thwarted early this morning when border police officers shot and killed a 33-year-old assailant. The attacker, a resident of an Arab neighborhood in the capital, suddenly drew a knife and attempted to assault the officers who were securing the area. The officers reacted swiftly, firing on the attacker as per protocol, resulting in his death at the scene. His knife was confiscated.

Jerusalem District Police Commander Major General Avshalom Peled, who arrived at the scene, praised the officers' quick response, stating, "The fighters reacted quickly and acted exactly as we expected them to. Jerusalem is safer today than ever before." One border police officer sustained a minor injury during the incident.

Paramedics from the volunteer organization "United Hatzalah" provided initial medical treatment to the injured officer, described as a man in his 30s with light injuries. He was then transported by ambulance to Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem, where his condition is reported as satisfactory.
