Jerusalem: Knife Attack Foiled Near Damascus Gate, Assailant Neutralized

A 33-year-old resident of the Beit Hanina neighborhood in East Jerusalem was neutralized Friday morning after attempting to stab civilians and then Border Police officers near the Damascus Gate in Jerusalem's Old City. No civilians or security forces personnel were injured in the incident. The assailant, who possessed an Israeli identity card, arrived at the scene on a motorcycle and parked near the gate. Around 3:45 AM, after dismounting, he attempted to stab civilians in the area. Those targeted managed to flee and alerted police. Border Police officers stationed nearby were dispatched and arrived to find the attacker brandishing a knife and trying to stab one of them. A male and female Border Police officer then opened fire, killing him. Initial reports overnight stated a suspect was "neutralized" without specifying his condition, but later information confirmed his death and identified him as a 33-year-old from Beit Hanina. No injuries were reported.
